Urgent: Billboard Bill

Railroad-page-001-web.jpg

Residents, we need your help and quickly.

You may not be aware that a bill to allow large advertising billboards to be placed on land owned by the railroads and next to Highways is working its way through City Hall. It might sound like “no big deal” however the law, as written, would allow up to 20 billboards per mile of highway. Essentially as someone drives into, out of, and through Baltimore, all they would see would be Billboards. If you have driven into Philadelphia for instance, you will know what an eyesore it is. The Haven Street Corridor, Locust Point / Riverside / Federal Hill, and parts of Midtown are also at risk of this visual blight. Furthermore, these signs could be digital which could be a traffic hazard.

The CCA Economic Development Committee (EDC) is asking residents to review the issue and if you feel like we do, then please write a letter of opposition to the Land Use Committee before Wednesday, October 14, 2020. And please reach out to others as we need as many voices as possible. Letters should be sent to Laurie.Feinberg@baltimorecity.gov. More information on this bill can be found at https://bit.ly/30xGbWS.
