On Saturday, June 19, 2021, the Canton Community Association, in partnership with the Baltimore National Heritage Area and the Friends of President Street Station, unveiled a set of historic panels commemorating Frederick Douglass’ escape from enslavement in 1838. Nearly 100 neighbors gathered outside at 2809 Boston Street in Canton, the site of the former depot where Frederick Bailey – later known as Frederick Douglass – boarded a train to freedom in the north.

Baltimore City DOT encourages Baltimore City residents to consider alternative and sustainable forms of transportation by continuing the dockless vehicle program, echoing many of Mayor Brandon Scott's priorities to build a more inclusive, safe, and accessible transportation system.

The CCA welcomes new Business Member Jesse Wilensky of Revolution Solar. Jesse, a local resident, started helping neighbors learn about residential solar by chatting in community FB groups which led him to host a few Zooms. Talk about helpful!!

The CCA is hosting a free community Dumpster Day on July 17. The dumpster will be located in the rear parking lot of the Broom Factory at 3500 Boston Street from 10:00 am until full. Plan to go early as it usually fills fast.

The meeting started at 6:30PM – It was livestreamed on Facebook. Amanda opened the meeting welcoming people who joined. She said there will be news and presentations about the neighborhood and the City. The Canton Community Association (CCA) is an all-volunteer group. The Board meets monthly. As more and more families make Canton their home, education remains a vital part of our community. Parents can now look to the CCA to provide a quarterly update from schools in and surrounding our neighborhood. This month we have info from Archbishop Borders, Clay Hill Public Charter School, Commodore John Rodgers, Hampstead Hill Academy, Patterson Park Public Charter School, The New Century School, and St. Casimir Catholic School.

Baltimore Recreation & Parks announces that city pools are open for the summer and select permits are now being issued for outdoor gatherings at city parks.

Congratulations to our neighbor Chris Broughton on receiving a Certificate of Recognition from Mayor Brandon M. Scott for leading the Get Lit Canton initiative.

On Monday, April 5, 2021, the statue of Captain John O’Donnell was removed from O’Donnell Square Park. On Wednesday, April 7, The Baltimore Sun printed this OpEd from CCA President Mark Edelson, written on behalf of the Canton Anti-Racism Alliance.
