The next quarterly CCA Public Meeting is on Tuesday, September 19 from 6:30-8:00 pm. It will be a hybrid, both in-person at the United Evangelical Church at 3200 Dillon Street (enter from East Ave.) and via Zoom. CCA Bloom Box Fall Fundraiser
Bloom Box is a local company that hand delivers fresh plants, garden supplies, and decorations right to your door! Cell Phone Recycling
CCA friend and volunteer Kristen Mills and the team at HDC, Inc. are collecting used cell phones and small electronics in support of a conservation program at the Maryland Zoo. Accepted items include cell phones, iPods, iPads, Apple watches, GPS, digital cameras, and more. (See the flyer or website for the full list.)

Drop off Monday-Friday from 9-3 at 2818 O'Donnell Street. If you need to drop off after hours, you can conveniently slip the cell phone through the mail slot. The donation box will be onsite for a limited time. Recycling is accepted through September 8, 2024.

Friday the 13th Movie Night
Enjoy the classic horror flick Friday the 13th on Friday, September 13 at 7 pm at Canton Waterfront Park. Silent headphones—no distractions, just pure terror! Tickets are just $5 per person. Free popcorn to keep you snacking while you scream! Plus, food trucks will be on-site to satisfy your cravings. Grab your friends, your courage, and come ready for a scary night. See you there! Free Community Dumpster Day
The CCA is hosting a free community Dumpster Day on Saturday, September 7 from 9 am til noon or full. Plan to go early as it usually fills fast. Location: 1100 block S. Lakewood Avenue alongside Safeway or adjacent on O’Donnell St. across from Circle Park.

Acceptable materials at the dump include household trash, furniture, other bulk items, appliances, scrap metal, cans, glass, plastics, paper, cardboard, and yard waste that is bagged appropriately. No toxic or hazardous waste.

Unacceptable materials include paint, solvents, pesticides, pool chemicals, acids, caustics, gasoline, mercury thermometers/thermostats, syringes, fire extinguishers, propane tanks, helium tanks, batteries, fluorescent light bulbs, and any other solid, liquid, or gaseous substance that is regulated as hazardous by State or federal law.

CCA Community Clean Ups
CCA Parks Committee Chair Kurt Hoffman will be leading a series neighborhood cleanups every first and third Saturdays through October at O’Donnell Square Park, Two Rivers Park and along the Canton waterfront. If you have an hour or two to volunteer, we’d love your help. Most cleans up begin at Professor Trash Wheel at 10 am, then we walk to either park and pick up trash. Or choose to start at O’Donnell Square Park to weed and clean up general debris. Some tools will be provided including grabbers, gloves, rakes, trash bags, and shovels. Canton Library – September Fun

Free Pilates, Zumba & Wellness Classes
CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield Engagement Center (at 1501 South Clinton Street in Canton) has Free Yoga Classes on Mondays from 5-6 pm. The instructor is amazing, and you don’t need CareFirst insurance to participate. Classes and parking are free. Some yoga mats are provided or you can bring your own. Other classes include Relaxation & Meditation, Stretch & Balance, Abs, Core & More, and Zumba. Hatton Senior Center
Baltimore is home to 13 senior centers which offer different programs and services for older adults. In Canton, the Hatton Senior Senior Center, located at 2825 Fait Ave., is open Monday-Thursday 9:00 am-3:30 pm. Neighbors 55+ can take part in fitness and wellness programs, dining services, and lifelong learning classes. Seniors 60+ are eligible for the “Eating Together Meal” Monday, Tuesday & Thursday at 11:30 am for $2. Advance registration is required. Blair’s on Hudson, the popular restaurant located at 2822 Hudson St., closed on Saturday, August 24. Owners Ted Stelzenmuller and his wife Jacque are retiring.

CCA Outing on the Mildred Belle
The CCA Board and our dedicated volunteers recently enjoyed an educational trip on the Mildred Belle, a historic Chesapeake Bay Buyboat operated by the Living Classrooms Foundation. This outing gave us insight into how Living Classrooms uses hands-on education and maritime resources to strengthen communities, offering job training and wellness programs. We were inspired by their impactful work and encourage you to learn more about this amazing organization at livingclassrooms.org. Let’s continue to support initiatives that uplift our community!

Canton Anti-Racism Alliance
The Canton Anti-Racism Alliance is dedicated to affecting long-term, impactful changes in our neighborhood to foster a more diverse, equitable, inclusive, and welcoming community.
