Canton Anti-Racism Alliance Update
The Canton Anti-Racism Alliance, in conjunction with the CCA, is in the process of writing and requesting a new historical marker that shares the history of people enslaved in Canton, with specific individuals found in archival records. While the story of Canton is often told as one of white-centric industry and immigration, we seek to acknowledge that Black people have been a part of its history since the beginning. It is part of the Alliance’s efforts to make sure the neighborhood’s history is accurately documented and that Canton is more inclusive in our historical education as well as in our current actions and mission. The Canton Anti-Racism Alliance is a coalition of volunteers dedicated to affecting long-term, impactful changes to foster a more diverse, equitable, inclusive, and welcoming community. The Alliance hosts a bi-monthly virtual meeting. All are invited to join. To learn more, email President@CantonCommunity.org.
