CCA Community Public Safety Camera Project

The Canton Community Association announces the CCA Public Safety Camera Project. To help with public safety initiatives, this pilot project places security cameras at multiple locations across our neighborhood. Here is a map showing the current and proposed sites for 2024.

Important Information

  • The cameras and the video footage are owned by CCA and hosted by private businesses under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

  • The cameras are not monitored in real-time by CCA, Police, or other third parties. There is no surveillance. Law enforcement can obtain video footage from the CCA or private businesses.

  • There is a mix of camera systems including 360° and fixed-focus cameras good in low light.

Obtaining Video Footage

  • If you are a victim of a crime and have reported that crime to the Baltimore Police Department, investigating officers can obtain video footage from CCA. Video footage of criminal activity will not be released directly to the public.

  • If you are involved in a road traffic accident and would like to request video footage for insurance purposes, you can obtain footage from the CCA.

  • To obtain footage, please complete this Footage Request Form.

Authorized CCA members will review the footage and document the review.  If the incident has been captured by one of our cameras, the footage will be sent to the appropriate authorities and/or insurance company, along with the requestor.

The project is funded by a $100,000 Community Safety Works Grant from The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD). The scope of the grant focuses on business districts in the community and locations were chosen based on crime data.

“This system by its nature of being installed will act as a deterrent because we now have active and recorded views in public areas that didn’t exist before. And when an incident does occur, we will have a recording of that incident with clarity.” – Rob Hood, owner of Fortius Security.

The CCA Public Safety Camera Project is managed by the CCA’s Public Safety committee. The Project was created with assistance from members from other neighborhoods in Southeast Baltimore who are also implementing similar measures.  We’d like to thank all the participants for collaborating to obtain the grant, vet the camera company, and establish the process to get the project up and running.

The vendor for the project is Fortius Security, LLC, owned and operated by Canton resident Rob Hood. Fortius provides full-service security services from consulting and design/build to installation and system support. To learn more about Fortius Security, visit https://fortiussecurity.com/.

Additional grant funding is being sought to expand the public safety camera project to add additional locations and to support the maintenance of the equipment.
