Arbor Day Award

Congratulations to the Baltimore City Forestry Board! The Forestry Board, a group of dedicated volunteers, was awarded the Harry J. Banker Gold Leaf Award for Outstanding Arbor Day activities by the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA).

For over 20 years, the Baltimore City Forestry Board has been leading and planning Baltimore City’s Arbor Day planting. The award celebrates their most recent event in St. Casimir’s Park in Canton. The Board partnered with BCRP Forestry Division, local non-profit Canton Canopy, Maryland Department of Natural Resources Forestry, and the students and teachers of St. Casimir Catholic School to plant 24 trees in April.

In addition to planting trees, the 5th and 6th-grade students filled and buried a time capsule, creating a memorable moment that will connect them to the park’s future. This special event gave the students hands-on experience with urban greening, an understanding of green career pathways, and a sense of their impact on Baltimore’s urban landscape.

CCA President Amanda Bourgeois and Co-marketing Chair Julie M. Kichline attended the event, thrilled to see so many students and local organizations engaged in the day’s activities.
