FRANKENSTEIN; or, The Modern Prometheus
Come see this one-man play faithfully adapted from Mary Shelley’s classic 1818 novel of Gothic horror on October 7 at 7 pm.

THE STORY: London, 1799.  Having returned to England after a failed sea expedition to the North Pole, Capt. Robert Walton is entreated to describe his strange encounter with Victor Frankenstein, a young science student whom he had rescued after finding him nearly frozen and traveling by a dog-drawn sled across the ice.  Walton then recounts Frankenstein’s own fantastic tale of a monster he had fashioned from the parts of stolen corpses -- only to reject, then pursue his creation across Europe into the Arctic hinterlands of Russia, vowing to destroy it…or die in the trying.

A must-see for Frankenstein enthusiasts and fans of mystery and horror.  Suitable for adults and children (ages 12 and over). Perfect for the Halloween season!  Written & performed by Greg Oliver Bodine.  Directed by DeLisa M. White.

This program will take place at Church on the Square, 1025 S Potomac St, Baltimore, MD 21224, and was made possible through the support of the Friends of the Canton Library.

Cancer Screening Saves Lives
Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a reminder to schedule your mammogram! Screening tests are used before a person has any symptoms to help find cancer early, when it may be easier to treat. To learn more, including how to schedule a screening test and how to afford a screening without insurance, visit cancer.org/get-screened.

Fire Prevention – No Firepits!
As the season changes and the weather cools it’s tempting to purchase a firepit or outdoor stove to gather around, grab a Boh, and #GetNeighborly. But, neighbors, this is the least neighborly thing you can do! This is highly dangerous, unsafe, and ILLEGAL in Baltimore City. To paraphrase City Code section 307 “Open burning, recreational fires, and portable outdoor fireplaces may not be operated within 15 feet of any structure, combustible material, or property line.” Please be a responsible neighbor, follow the fire code, and DON’T engage in any form of open flame on your deck, sidewalk, or in your yard!! The community thanks you.

CCA Community Cleanup
We’re happy the CCA Parks Committee is hosting a community cleanup on Saturday, October 26. If you have an hour or two to volunteer, we’d love your help. Meet at Professor Trash Wheel at 9 am to walk and pick up trash. Or choose to start at O’Donnell Square Park to weed and clean up general debris. Some tools will be provided including grabbers, gloves, rakes, trash bags, and shovels. Let’s make this fun - costumes encouraged!

It’s also Mayor Scott’s Fall Cleanup Day of Service. To #GetNeighborly on your block, please keep your sidewalks and tree pits weeded. Also, watch for debris in the street and gutters so water can properly flow to the storm drains. Thanks!

Leaf Collection
Leaf Collection Season is here!! Bagged leaves will be collected on regularly scheduled trash collection days beginning October 21, 2024. DPW solid waste crews will collect up to 5 bags of leaves from each address every week. If you have more than 5 bags, please call 311 to schedule a pickup. Call 311 before 6 p.m. on Sunday to arrange a leaf collection for the following Monday. During these scheduled pickups, DPW will collect up to 20 bags of leaves. Residents may schedule multiple appointments for up to two months prior to the pick-up date. Multiple appointments may be scheduled until all of your bagged leaves are collected.

Reporting and Preventing Crime – Tip Line
