BGE External Regulator Information

Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE) has been in the process of installing external gas regulators as part of a larger modernization of its natural gas distribution system. The company has stated that these installations are aimed at enhancing safety and bolstering gas delivery to customers in Baltimore.

However, this initiative has been met with resistance from residents across multiple Baltimore communities. Concerns have been raised about the potential dangers of these exterior gas regulators, as well as environmental and aesthetic issues. As a result, a lawsuit has been filed against BGE by several Baltimore City residents and eight neighboring community associations.

In response to these concerns, a judge has issued a temporary restraining order, halting the installation of these regulators for the time being. This development came after at least six residences had their gas turned off because they refused BGE access for the exterior gas regulators to be installed.

The Canton Community Association (CCA) board held a members-only informational meeting with BGE representatives and others associated with the external gas regulator installations. This meeting provided a platform for residents to ask questions and for BGE to provide further information about the installations.

Following the meeting, the CCA board voted and has chosen a path of mediation and information sharing rather than joining the legal action against BGE. The CCA is committed to sharing information related to the lawsuit and supports any member or neighboring community association choosing to join the legal effort. This decision underscores the CCA's commitment to fostering dialogue and understanding among all parties involved, while also ensuring that the concerns and interests of its members are adequately represented.

Additionally, Team 46, the legislative representatives for the district, have been actively engaging with this issue. They have released an FAQ to help residents understand the situation and a link to it was included in our latest membership newsletter. (https://rb.gy/w8yxr
