The CCA will host a hybrid Public Meeting on May 16 at 6:30 pm. We’re going to fill you in on CCA news and we’ll field some questions, too. Join us in person at the United Evangelical Church at 3200 Dillon Street (enter via East Ave. and go downstairs) or watch online on our FB page. Community Outreach
The CCA and the Canton Anti-Racism Alliance are committed to fostering communication across our community. To be as inclusive as possible we are looking for businesses, organizations, schools, churches, senior and rec centers, etc. to serve as points of distribution for information. If your business or organization has a place to post a flyer, a newsletter, an email list, or simply hosts a regular meeting where you could distribute a flyer and you would like to participate, please email info@CantonCommunity.org.
Buy-A-Brick Program adds Canton Dog Park
The CCA Buy-A-Brick Program is excited to announce that bricks are now available at the Friends of Canton Dog Park as well as at O'Donnell Square Park! Purchase a commemorative brick for $100 to be installed at the park of your choice and/or a replica brick with felt backing for $35. This is a unique way to pay tribute to your love of the community, recognize a special date, or businesses, or memorialize loved ones, including the furry ones. Purchase here.
Music on the Square Concert Series
Music on the Square Concert Series continues May 17 with Brittany Ann Tranbaugh. Visit www.facebook.com/musicotsquare for more information. The concert series is held at Church on the Square located at 1025 S. Potomac Street.
Kinetic Sculpture Race
The American Visionary Art Museum’s popular Kinetic Sculpture Race is May 6. Ordinary people build extraordinary human-powered, all-terrain, artful contraptions to race over land, water, sand & mud and you’re all invited to join the fun! This wacky event starts at the AVAM, goes to Canton Waterfront Park, then parades north to Patterson Park. This is a don’t-miss event for SE Bmore!! DETAILS
Wine at Sunset
Friends of Patterson Park hosts their annual fundraiser, Wine at Sunset, on Thursday, May 25 from 6-9 pm. This event features wine tastings and small bites from some of Baltimore’s favorite restaurants as well as live music by Rob Fahey – all to benefit Patterson Park! For more info and tickets.
Canton Canopy Spring Plantings
Canton Canopy is a volunteer group working with the CCA to increase the trees in Canton. Join them on May 6 and May 13 from 9:00 am to noon to help plant new trees! (Location TBD.) They’ll have tools, gloves, coffee, and donuts… all they need is you! For details, like them on Facebook.
St. Brigid’s Sign Unveiling
On Saturday, May 6 at 12:00 pm, join Councilmember Zeke Cohen and former parishioners of St. Brigid's Church for the unveiling of a ceremonial street sign "The St. Brigid Way" in memory of the 165 years St. Brigid's Church that was on the corner of Hudson St. and Ellwood Ave. Former parishioners also contributed to a Historic Marker sign to provide a remembrance of St. Brigid's contributions to the Canton Community.
Free Pilates, Zumba & Wellness Classes
CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield (at 1501 South Clinton Street in Canton) has Free Pilates Classes on Wednesdays from 12-12:30. The instructor is amazing and you don’t need CareFirst insurance to participate. Classes and parking are free. Some yoga mats are provided but you are free to bring your own. Other free wellness classes offered at the CareFirst Engagement Center include Decoding Diabetes, Healthy Food & Body, Caregiver Support, Boost Your Mental Muscle, and Managing Stress. Hatton Senior Center
Baltimore is home to 13 senior centers which offer different programs and services for older adults. In Canton, the Hatton Senior Senior Center, located at 2825 Fait Ave., is open Monday-Thursday 9:00 am-3:30 pm. Neighbors 55+ can take part in fitness and wellness programs, dining services, and lifelong learning classes. Seniors 60+ are eligible for the “Eating Together Meal” Monday, Tuesday & Thursday at 11:30 am for $2. Advance registration is required. Reporting and Preventing Crime – Tip Line
The Baltimore City Police Department asks neighbors to report crimes via this TIP email: SEDtips@baltimorepolice.org. Security camera footage and photos should be included.
