In Canton, here’s how we roll!

Transportation doesn’t just mean a car these days. Whether you’re driving, pedaling, riding, rolling, scooting, or walking, the CCA Transportation Committee (CCATC) is here to support safe transportation in our community. The CCATC’s goal is to improve the livability, functionality, and safety of Canton through sound and equitable transportation policies and projects within our neighborhood and district.

We strive to improve transit on multiple fronts including:

  • Bus routes and frequency

  • Water Taxi improvements

  • Traffic calming

  • Bike and multi-purpose lanes

  • Rail lines and improvements

Our focus this year is on:

Safe intersections

In June, DOT, prompted by a year-long effort by Councilmember Zeke Cohen, the CCA Transportation Committee, and concerned neighbors, installed a 4-way stop at the intersection of O’Donnell and Baylis Streets. The intersection had proven dangerous, being the site of multiple accidents. The intersection is now a 4-way stop with traffic calming crosswalk paint, to be followed by flex posts. Also in the works are new crosswalks around O’Donnell Square Park.

-The Greenway Trail project Baltimore Greenway Study - Baltimore Greenway

Over the past few years, the City partnered with the Baltimore Greenway Trails Coalition, including Rails-to-Trails Conservancy (RTC), to lay the groundwork for a 35-mile greenway through the City of Baltimore that would connect communities to each other and to some of Baltimore’s most treasured assets – parks, trails, waterfronts, historical sites, educational institutions, business districts, to name a few – in a sustainable, environmentally-friendly way. The Greenway would become a City resource that promotes active transportation, like walking, running, and biking, and would provide additional opportunities and access to recreation throughout Baltimore.

The Bikeways Program “seeks to leverage past investments in bicycle facilities, complement existing state, local, and federal programs, and promote biking as a fun, healthy transportation mode”.
