The CCA and the Canton Anti-Racism Alliance are committed to fostering communication across our community. To be as inclusive as possible we are looking for businesses, organizations, schools, churches, senior and rec centers, etc. to serve as points of distribution for information. If your business or organization has a place to post a flyer, a newsletter, an email list, or simply hosts a regular meeting where you could distribute a flyer and you would like to participate, please email info@CantonCommunity.org.
CCA Public Meeting May 17
The CCA will host a virtual Public Meeting on May 17 at 6:30 pm. We’re going to fill you in on CCA news and we’ll field some questions, too. To submit a question in advance, please email info@cantoncommunity.org. Look for more details closer to the date on our FB and IG accounts, and don’t forget to check the bulletin board in O’Donnell Square Park!
Canton Canopy Spring Planting #2
Canton Canopy, the volunteer group working with the CCA to increase the trees in Canton, hosts a tree planting on Saturday, May 14. Join them from 9:00 a.m. to noon to help plant new trees! They’ll have tools, gloves, coffee, and donuts… just bring yourself and help us green our neighborhood! Meet at Hampstead Hill Academy at 500 S. Linwood Ave.
Friends of Canton Dog Park
A new retaining wall has been installed at the Canton Dog Park. The new lower fence-like structure was necessary to keep the sand inside the park. The CCA sends a huge Thank You to everyone who came out to help during the Canton Dog Park Volunteer Dig Day!! Volunteers included CCA Dog Park Chair Jayne, Ranger Tony, Brian, Jason, Kim, Riley, Lenny, Catie, Alecia, Matt, Jan, Christine, Olive, Lizzie, Andrew, Philippe and all! Shout out to Julie, Allie, Amanda and Torbin for representing the Canton Community Association and helping to coordinate behind the scenes. Dypski Park Update
We are thrilled to see such progress at Dypski Park, 1213 S. Ellwood Ave. The renovation, led by Baltimore City Rec and Parks, is well under way. Here's what neighbors can expect.
The playground structure will be installed over the next two weeks.
Installation of the protective rubber safety surfacing (includes synthetic turf) and landscape will follow in May.
Installation of the two park shelters and work for the decorative fountain will continue into June and July.
Please understand this is an estimated schedule of work contingent upon weather and availability / delivery of materials.
Music on the Square Concert Series
Music on the Square Concert Series continues May 13 with Brooks Long. Brooks is a songster, a soulful, energetic yet soothing human jukebox. His collection of songs are as deep as his thoughts and views on life. Come hear Brooks live in concert and be transported by his songs and stories. Visit www.facebook.com/musicotsquare for more information. The concert series is held every 2nd Tuesday of the month at Church on the Square located at 1025 S. Potomac Street.
Kinetic Sculpture Race
The American Visionary Art Museum’s popular Kinetic Sculpture Race is May 7. This wacky event starts at the AVAM, goes to Canton Waterfront Park, then parades north to Patterson Park. This is a don’t miss event for SE Bmore!! For more info, https://bit.ly/3ETVIDq.
Wine at Sunset
Friends of Patterson Park hosts their annual fundraiser, Wine at Sunset, on May 26 from 6-9 pm. Each ticket includes unlimited wine tastings and small bites from several local restaurants. For more info and tickets, visit https://bit.ly/3ESfM98.
BNHA Creative Youth Competition
The Baltimore National Heritage Area (BNHA) invites Baltimore City youth to participate in their 3rd Annual History Through Arts Competition. The purpose of this contest is to engage City youth in an art exhibit showcasing their unique talents while also expressing their view of life in Baltimore City. The expectation is that the artwork will reflect Baltimore’s historic people, places, significant architecture, or represent a historical event. The contest is open to Baltimore youth ages 9-18. Submissions can take the form of photography and works on paper. The deadline for submissions is May 25, 2022. To enter https://bit.ly/3NdtyXR. Reporting and Preventing Crime – Tip Line
The Baltimore City Police Department asks neighbors to report crimes via this TIP email: SEDtips@baltimorepolice.org. Security camera footage and photos should be included.

CCA Committees
We are excited to announce the formation of our new Sustainability Committee. If interested, please complete the form at https://www.cantoncommunity.org/volunteer. Other CCA committees include Arts, Economic Development, Education, Marketing, Public Safety, Transportation, Social, Membership, and Volunteer. The CCA also oversees the Friends of Canton Dog Park and Friends of O’Donnell Square, and partners with Canton Canopy and the I Wonder Garden. New members are welcomed to all committees. Block Captains
The CCA is looking for Block Captains to increase communication and help bring about more organization from the ground up. Block Captains also play an important role in the Get Lit Canton project. Canton Anti-Racism Alliance
The Alliance hosts a virtual meeting on the 4th Tuesday of every month to discuss and affect change to help Canton become a more welcoming, diverse, and inclusive neighborhood. We invite all members of our community to join us. Currently, we are planning a Juneteenth event. If you are interested in volunteering to help plan or participate the day of, please email markedelson@cantoncommunity.org.
