CCA Virtual Public Meeting November 16

Welcome Maggie Master
The CCA would like to welcome Councilmember Zeke Cohen’s new Chief of Staff Maggie Master. Maggie joins the team after 13 years in the Baltimore non-profit world at Teach For America. She held a variety of leadership roles there, including as a Managing Director of the teacher coaching team, and overseeing the region's district partnerships and certification and accreditation processes. She also holds a master's degree in journalism and is a former English teacher. You can add Maggie to your address book at maggie.master@baltimorecity.gov. Welcome, Maggie.

CCA Reusable Totes
Who needs plastic? Not us!! Go sustainable with the new foldable, reusable totes from the CCA. The bags and other CCA merch are available exclusively at 2910 on the Square. Covid-19 Booster Shots
Marylanders 18+ who received their second Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 dose at least six months ago and meet specific criteria are now eligible for a COVID-19 booster. Marylanders 18+ who received the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine two or more months ago may also receive a booster. Adopt an Elder
Holidays can be lonely for our seniors, especially if they don’t have family nearby. Please consider Adopting an Elder(s) for Thanksgiving or throughout the Holiday Season. Canton Canopy Fall Planting

Recycling Carts 
Baltimore City is distributing new recycling carts. Some homes in Canton have already received theirs. To find out when your delivery is scheduled, visit https://bit.ly/3mDQKTT. 

DPW Fall Leaf Collection
Leaf collection season began Monday, October 25, 2021, and will continue through Monday, January 3, 2022. Bagged leaves (up to 5 bags) are collected on regularly scheduled trash collection days. Residents can call 311 to schedule special Monday pickups of up to 20 bags of leaves. Read more on leaf collection.

O’Donnell Square Park Clean Up
The October Community Clean Up day was a big success. Dozens of neighbors stopped by O’Donnell Square to pick up free waste collection bags. Some stayed to help at the park while others took them home to clean up their blocks. Thank you to all who participated. 

Join CCA Outreach Chair Torbin Green and the Stewards of O'Donnell Square Park every second Saturday of the month to clean and maintain the Park. Baltimore City Recreation and Parks will provide tools (gloves, rakes, trash bags and shovels) and personnel support. CCA Block Captains
Good news, neighbors. We are happy to share that we now have 158 block captains (up 33), covering 102 blocks (up 18, several blocks have co-captains).We have 300 blocks to oversee, so we still need your help. Get Lit Canton
The CCA Public Safety Committee is encouraging neighbors to Get Lit! No, not that way. We’re encouraging residents and businesses to install exterior lighting to improve the safety of our neighborhood. One way to light up your block is with the strings of café lights. Heading up this project for the CCA is our neighbor Chris Broughton. To get started, please follow the instructions in the infographic or email info@cantoncommunity.org.  

Who loves to take pictures?
The Marketing Committee is seeking volunteer photographers to take images at CCA and other community events. Whether you're someone with professional experience or just enjoy snapping pics of our wonderful neighborhood on your phone, you can get involved in helping our community. Examples include: the Canton Safety & Improvement Walk, O'Donnell Square Park Clean Ups and the Saturday concerts at the Can Company. Images captured at these events would be shared on CCA social media and in our marketing materials. To learn more about this volunteer role, please email Marketing@CantonCommunity.org 

Canton Anti-Racism Alliance
The Canton Anti-Racism Alliance is dedicated to affecting long-term, impactful changes in our neighborhood to foster a more diverse, equitable, inclusive, and welcoming community. The Alliance meets the 4th Tuesday of every month via Zoom. To join, email president@cantoncommunity.org for details. The next meeting is Tuesday, November 23. Everyone is welcome! 

Reporting and Preventing Crime – Tip Line
The Baltimore City Police Department asks neighbors to report crimes via this TIP email: SEDtips@baltimorepolice.org. Security camera footage and photos should be included.

Community Outreach

The CCA and the Canton Anti-Racism Alliance are committed to fostering communication across our community and we need your help. To make sure we are reaching neighbors beyond social media we are looking for businesses, organizations, schools, churches, senior and rec centers, etc. to serve as points of distribution for information. If your business or organization has a place to post a flyer, distributes a newsletter, has an email list, etc. and you would like to help facilitate outreach to our neighbors, please email info@CantonCommunity.org. 

Block Captains

The CCA is looking for Block Captains to increase communication and help bring about more organization from the ground up. Block Captains also play an important role in the Get Lit Canton project. If you are interested in representing your block, please email info@cantoncommunity.org and put Block Captain in the subject line.

CCA Committees
CCA committees include Arts, Economic Development, Education, Marketing, Public Safety, Transportation, Social, Membership and Volunteer. The CCA also oversees the Friends of Canton Dog Park and Friends of O’Donnell Square, and partners with Canton Canopy.
