Baltimore City Rec and Parks will host a Virtual Community Meeting scheduled on August 25 at 6:30pm to provide the community with an update regarding Dypski Park Playground. They will also discuss relocating the historic pavilion to Leakin Park. Please RSVP via https://forms.gle/4Q9y8r93yoRhmC7h8. Once you have RSVP’d, meeting access information will be sent to the email address provided. Please share this information with community members and neighbors so that they have the opportunity to receive information first-hand from BCRP. If anyone has any questions, please reach out to Sharnice C. Barnett, Community Liaison Officer, at 443-248-0866.

Primary Election Mail In Ballot
On July 8, Governor Hogan declared that all voters need to request a mail-in ballot if they plan to vote by mail in the 2020 General Election. This is a big departure from the Primary Election, when all active voters were automatically mailed a ballot. You can beat the rush by requesting your mail-in ballot now via https://bit.ly/31jVdPB. You'll need your driver's license or state identification card at hand to fill out all of the details.

The Canton History Committee
The CCA is in the process of putting together a working group that will assess the current and planned historical sites in Canton (including the O'Donnell statue, the historic markers, and the forthcoming Frederick Douglass historical landmark) in order to ensure that each historical site is an accurate reflection of the history of Canton and the monument for which it is erected. The Committee, with the assistance of the broader community in Canton and throughout Southeast Baltimore, will also convene a series of conversations to determine whether each site should remain as is, be amended or modified, or be removed in its entirety. If you are or know a Baltimore historian with knowledge of African American history in East Baltimore, or if you are person of color working toward making sure history is documented and represented accurately throughout our community and would like to join the Committee, please contact us at info@cantoncommunity.org

HHA Families in Need
Hampstead Hill Academy is raising funds to buy groceries for our students and their families. As the impact of Covid-19 continues many families’ situations have worsened. You can help. Your donation of $50 = 1 week of groceries, but any amount will help.  100% of your donation goes to the families and is carefully hand-delivered by staff volunteers. If you have questions, please contact Ms. Felicia German fgerman@bcps.k12.md.us or Ms. Geri Swann at geriswann@hotmail.com. TO DONATE, visit https://bit.ly/3dXaqdz.

Black-owned Business List
One way to support our neighbors of color is to shop and dine at Black-owned businesses. Use this link (https://bit.ly/2YnvhT7) for a map of Black-owned restaurants in Baltimore City, including the Knotty Pine and Shipyard Pub in Canton.

O’Donnell Square Park Maintenance
O’Donnell Square Park is maintained by CCA Board member Tobin Green and volunteers like Brad and Cathy Rees. Typically, there is a call for volunteers every month. Since we’re not yet back to full-scale events, neighbors are encouraged to please maintain their sidewalks, tree pits, and alleys during the shutdown. If you see any problems in our Canton parks, please email Torbin (our liaison with BCRP) at outreach@cantoncommunity.org. Oh, and if you want to mask up and help, just shoot him an email to coordinate a time. Thank you for your efforts!
