GET GREEN
One activity that will not only fill your time, but also give back to your community is gardening. Whether you want to start a container garden in your backyard, fill your tree pit with native perennials, volunteer to weed a neighborhood park, or earn your Plant Fairy wings, check out these ideas to get green this summer.
Green Stoop Challenge
How’s your tree pit looking? Would you like to see it full of native perennials that support local wildlife like birds and butterflies while helping to filter polluted runoff to keep our streams and harbor clean? Then you’ll want to learn more about the Healthy Harbor Green Stoop Challenge. Email Leanna@waterfrontpartnership.org. text 443.996.6271 or visit https://www.waterfrontpartnership.org/healthy-harbor/green-stoop-challenge/.
Canton Plant Fairies
Operating on an anonymous “give one” or “get one” policy, the Canton Plant Fairies group encourages neighbors to leave plants on each other’s stoops. Just add your address to the list and let the magic happen. To sign up for this feelgood group, visit: https://www.facebook.com/groups/3183667314986887/
I Wonder Garden – Call for Volunteers
Join native plants and veggie garden enthusiasts in our Canton neighborhood garden. Located behind the old school building at 801 S. Highland Avenue the I Wonder Garden launched in 2013 with the support of the Chesapeake Bay Trust and Blue Water Baltimore. The 7,000 sq. ft. school/community garden helps keep our urban landscape a little greener and filters stormwater run-off to keep the harbor cleaner. For current information about the garden and to volunteer, check out the website at http://www.iwondergarden.squarespace.com.
