Juneteenth Historic Marker Unveiling Celebration

  • 1021 North Linwood Avenue Baltimore, MD, 21205 United States (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

The Canton Anti-Racism Alliance and CCA invite the community to a Juneteenth Celebration on Wednesday, June 19 at 11 a.m. at O’Donnell Square Park.

The event will feature the dedication of a new historic marker memorializing 48 individuals enslaved on the Canton Plantation in 1805. The marker honors the stolen contributions of enslaved people of African descent and roots Black history visibly in the fabric of our neighborhood.

🎤 The program will feature participation from:
• Representatives of the Canton Anti-Racism Alliance and CCA
• Elected officials and noted historian(s)
• Reverend Dr. Marietta Hebert-Davis
• A student from Hampstead Hill Academy (HHA)

🕊️ All are invited to attend this meaningful moment of reflection and remembrance as we honor this vital piece of our neighborhood’s history.

New rules apply for 2025, in particular no large appliances, construction debris or yard waste.

Acceptable materials at the dump include household trash, furniture, cans, glass, plastics, paper, and cardboard. No toxic or hazardous waste.

Unacceptable materials include paint, solvents, pesticides, pool chemicals, acids, caustics, gasoline, mercury thermometers/thermostats, syringes, fire extinguishers, propane tanks, helium tanks, batteries, fluorescent light bulbs, tires, metal, yard waste, construction debris, automotive waste/parts, and any other solid, liquid, or gaseous substance that is regulated as hazardous by State or federal law. No “white goods” to include refrigerators, freezers, ovens, washing machines, and dryers.

Are you a dumpster diver? This is also a great opportunity to score items to recycle, reuse, and repurpose. Come on out and take a look!

Community Input Night: O'Donnell Square Park Redesign

  • 1021 North Linwood Avenue Baltimore, MD, 21205 United States (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

The CCA has launched an exciting project to renovate the center of "The Square" at O'Donnell Square Park. We're calling it Project ODSP. The vision, featuring a new multi-use covered structure, is to create a welcoming space for inclusive, community-centered events that are fun, educational, and respectful of the neighborhood vibe.

To ensure this beloved public space reflects the needs and spirit of our community, we're inviting neighbors to help guide this vision and shape the future of the park together. Meet us on Tuesday, June 10th from 6:30-8:00pm at 1021 Linwood Ave to participate. This project is led by the CCA and local landscape architects EnviroCollab in conjunction with the Parks and People, Baltimore City Rec and Parks (BCRP), and Councilmember Mark Parker. Have questions? Email us at info@CantonCommunity.org.

Let's reimagine and revitalize the heart of our community together. Stop by to hear what's in the works, share your thoughts, and help bring new life to O'Donnell Square Park.

Project Overview:
BCPSS, in partnership with Cushman & Wakefield, is initiating a Request for Proposals (RFP) to identify a developer for the Canton Middle Building. Purpose of Our Attendance:
We would like to attend your next scheduled community meeting to:

  • Provide a brief overview of the project and share our vision.

  • Outline the key steps in the RFP process.

  • Gather initial feedback from community members to ensure their voices are part of the planning.

Please let us know if it would be possible to join your upcoming meeting, as well as any relevant dates, times, or next steps for participation.

Thank you for considering this request. We look forward to the opportunity to engage with the Canton community and discuss this exciting project.
