Seasonal / Holiday Trash and Recycling Announcements

Christmas Tree Recycling

Between January 3-31, 2008, the Baltimore City Department of Public Works is running curbside tree collection. Put trees out along with your trash no later than 7:00 a.m. on your second trash collection day (Thursday for those west of S. Potomac Street, Friday for those east).

Single Stream Recycling Starts in January 2008!

Effective January 8, 2008, Baltimore City Department of Public Works will begin collecting all recyclable materials -- bottles, cans, plastic # 1-7, mixed paper and cardboard -- in a single container on the same day. Monday recycling collection will be discontinued. Plastic bags of any color will no longer be accepted.

Canton residents (Zone 4) should set out all recyclables on the second and fourth Fridays (the former paper pickup day). Use the City's new yellow recycling containers, or any other container clearly marked "Recycling."

If you have any questions or concerns about single stream recycling, call 311.

Trash

All garbage should go out the morning of trash day and should be in aluminum trash cans. It is against city ordinance to not keep your garbage in a proper sealed trash can container. All garbarge should go be placed in front of your home, on the curb.

Don't put out your trash in advance of your designated pick-up day. It encourages rat and rodent infestation.  Responsible citizens make for a clean and healthy Canton. If you just can't wait, then take it to an authorized disposal location. For more information, please check out the Baltimore City Department of Public Works website.

Thanks to Emily Ellickson-Brown, our former liaison in the Mayor's Department of Neighborhoods, here's an overview of the City's Trash code .

See below for locations and hours of sanitation yards and the landfill. Please note that the Western, Eastern, and Northwestern Sanitation Yards are now open on Saturdays.
